Tax Spending

"Tax spending" is another term for tax breaks. A variety of tax exemptions, deductions, credits, deferrals and special rules allow individuals and businesses to reduce the amount of state tax they owe. A small number of these tax breaks are provided only to (or are enhanced in value for) people with children.

Tax spending directly aimed at benefiting children and their families includes income tax reductions for families with young or dependent children, foster or adopted children, childcare expenses and other child-related expenditures.
