Public School Military Mitigation

The federal government gives assistance, called Impact Aid, to school districts that have significant federal land (including military bases) within their boundaries, helping offset local revenue lost because this property cannot be taxed.

Because of reductions in payment by the federal government, this line item provides funding for school districts that have lost federal money. In past years, funds were allocated to the Commonwealth’s participation in the Interstate Compact on Educational Opportunity for Military Children, an organization that provides services to children whose families have been displaced by military service.
