Prevention & Wellness

Prevention & Wellness programs aim to prevent disease and promote healthy behavior, as well as identifying and treating certain conditions. These activities help ensure that children will grow up to be healthy adults.

Prevention & Wellness programs operated by the Department of Public Health (DPH) include
an immunization program that ensures all children in Massachusetts receive necessary vaccines; blood lead testing services and other lead poisoning prevention programs; substance abuse treatment programs operation by the Division of Substance Abuse Services, including programs tailored to young adults; and the Massachusetts Tobacco Cessation and Prevention Program, which aims to prevent both young people and adults from beginning to smoke, and helps those who have started smoking to quit.
